TV is a Romance Killer

by Alison Nancye

One sure fire way to kill off any romantic interaction with your partner is television.

TV has become such a huge part of our daily diet that society is slowly loosing the ability to effortlessly engage and interact with our families at home.
Whilst I understand the TV thing - great shows we love and also a way to switch off from your busy day - the downside of TV is switching off from the people you love as well.

You don't need to go cold turkey and throw the tele out the window (well you can if you want!) but having a couple of night's off (at least) every week, is a great move to increase your opportunity to become more intimate on the homefront.

Taking time of an evening to just 'be' together is also another great way to unwind after your day, infact it will feed your soul more than you know it.

Tune in to some more family time this month!

Sing Your Stresses Away

by Alison Nancye
Do you know how hard it is to be stressed AND sing at the same time?

Whenever I listen to music, I instantly feel good (why I don't listen to it more often is another other topic for conversation). And whenever I sing (especially the silly kind with hair brush in hand as my microphone) I feel REALLY good.

I was reminded recently how singing can even turn a toddler around from their messiest mood. It was my regular Friday Fun Day ritual with my kids and we took a little longer than usual getting out the door. With the rain belting down around us and time not on our side, we were all feeling somewhat frazzled before we had even ventured out on our adventure for the day. I broke in to an impromptu song and I'm so glad I did.

Instead of raising my voice to get my kids out the door a bit quicker (tried that and it clearly wasn't working), I started singing my instructions. As I got more in to the rhythm of my made-up song, so too did my kids. Within seconds we three were practically gliding out the door full of fun, laughter and wonder about life.

And to prove my 'singing' point even further, my three year old daughter said 'mummy can you sing some more of your song, I love it'. I smiled and of course I obliged for most of the day that followed.

Soooo it's a really simple everyday tip but a definite winner no matter how young or old you are... sing your stresses away today!

Mums Need 'Time Out' Time Too

by Alison Nancye

Woman%20on%20Kitchen%20Floor.jpgWhenever it all gets a bit too much with my three year old daughter and two year old son, instead of giving them 'time out', I take it for myself.

I tell them mummy needs 'time out time'. I go to my bedroom for a few minutes, close the door and be quiet and BREATH and REGROUP. I always come back lighter and wiser as a result.

To my delight my kids have really taken to understanding that mummy needs this time alone and so now they tend to work things out for themselves (just like their mummy is during her quiet time). Often I'll return to two toddlers playing happily and regrouped too. This peaceful picture tells me 'mummy time out time' was a great idea yet again.
